Elevate Your Living

Sought-After Strip District Location

Named for the narrow strip of land that it occupies along the Allegheny River, the Strip District is packed with foodie and international destinations, from grocers and wholesalers to eateries, produce stands, and sidewalk vendors. Rich in history, the neighborhood was home to Andrew Carnegie’s first ventures in iron and steel, as well as the place where George Westinghouse invented the air brake and AC current. The Strip District retains its vintage industrial character, making it a desirable location for businesses and residences alike. Bordering Downtown and Lawrenceville, the neighborhood offers easy access to Pittsburgh’s major entertainment drivers — Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field), PNC Park, and the Cultural District with Heinz Hall, the Benedum Center, Byham Theater, jazz clubs, many more entertainment venues, and a wide range of dining options.

Historic Springfield Schoolhouse

Built in 1871, the Springfield Schoolhouse served the neighborhood’s children until 1934. It was then transitioned to a warehouse for the school district. The Springfield Schoolhouse would remain a warehouse only until 1946.

Owing to its location across the street from Crucible Steel’s extensive foundry facilities, the company purchased the building that year. Crucible turned the Springfield Schoolhouse into its administrative headquarters. Today, the former Crucible Steel Foundry is used as office and flex space. The foundry and other nearby industrial buildings contribute to the unique character of the neighborhood.

In 2000, Bonn McSorley purchased the historic Springfield Schoolhouse and named it the Pittsburgh Decorative Center. Her building was home to four retail home goods stores. In addition it housed local artists, a yoga studio, a theater school, and a variety of other artistically associated organizations. Bonn subsequently converted the former schoolhouse into 14 high-end apartments in 2008. Today, you can own a piece of this beautiful historic building and be part of an incredible community. Condos for the Adventurous City Dweller

However, owner-occupied condos are in high demand. As a result, 31st Street Lofts owner Bonn McSorley has undertaken the task to turn the building into for-sale condos.

Situated at the corner of 31st and Smallman Streets, the 31st Street Lofts provide convenient access to river activities — the building is across the bridge from a large and active marina. This desirable location is within two miles of the city’s most popular cultural and entertainment attractions. Bonn McSorley sees this as the time to redevelop this upscale apartment building to offer the benefits of home ownership in the highly desired Strip District.
